SURFING

THE BEST SURFING ON THE EAST COAST

Folly Beach is an absolute surfer’s paradise. Its strategic position allows for an abundance of onshore swells that create fantastic waves, making it one of the top surfing destinations in the region. There are plenty of excellent surfing spots across the entire island. However, the ultimate surfer’s gem lies within The Washout area, which claims the most exceptional waves on the entire Folly Beach. Interestingly, this spot was born out of the destruction caused by Hurricane Hugo, which wiped out a block of beachfront homes, allowing the wind to push through and create perfect swells.

If you’re new to the island, it can be tough figuring out where to catch the best waves. It’s crucial to have a good understanding of where to find the most radical barrels and where it’s safe to surf. You don't have to be an experienced surfer to enjoy Folly Beach. No matter your skill level, you're sure to have an unforgettable experience. So pack your bags, grab your board, and get ready to ride the waves at Folly Beach.
